A large crowd at Sheffield Citadel were privileged to hear the South London Fellowship Band who presented a concert on Friday 7th June as part of their tour of the North of England. Under the direction of Major George Whittingham the band presented a varied programme including old (The Old Wells) and new ( Fantasia for Children) the latter being a fitting choice having been composed by the late Jim Wright a previous Bandmaster at Sheffield Citadel.
The band are fortunate in having excellent soloists in Alan Moyse, Darrell Scholes (cornet) and Adrian Horwood (euphonium) whose playing was greatly appreciated by the congregation.
It was inspiring to see a band whose average age is 68 performing to such a high standard for the glory of God, a testimony to the fact that in God’s service there is no such thing as retirement.
