Norwich Citadel Band to visit Sheffield

Not to Be Missed !

Norwich Citadel Band, one of the Salvation Army’s premier brass bands, will be visiting Sheffield for the weekend 5th & 6th April.  On the Saturday evening the Band will be presenting a festival of music at The Salvation Army on Psalter Lane.  This promises to be a fantastic evening of music and we invite you to come along & share with us.  The evening starts at 7.00pm and tickets will be available on the door for just £5.00.  To reserve your place, contact us directly or post your ticket money to us, along with your details & we’ll be happy to reserve a ticket for you.

The Band will also be leading worship at The Citadel on the Sunday and you’re welcome to share with us at 10.30am and 4.30pm.

Norwich Citadel Band, one of the ‘finest’ of Salvation Army bands, was established in 1882 following a visit by General William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army, who preached at the newly opened Norwich corps (church).  The General implored its citizens to “Get a drum and rouse Norwich from one end to the other.”  This directive was immediately acted upon, instruments were purchased and a band was formed.

More than 130 years later the band remains a vital part of worship and witness in Norwich and is very much involved in the life of the city, providing music for many civic, church and cultural events including the annual Lord Mayor’s Civic Service and the Remembrance Day Parade.  It also regularly plays in the magnificent 11th century Cathedral and in concert halls around the region.

Alongside its most important function of supporting worship at Norwich Citadel, the band travels to other parts of Great Britain giving concerts and leading worship at other Salvation Army centres.  Appearances at famous venues include London’s Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the concert hall of the University of Cape Town, the Centennial Memorial Temple in New York City and Sandringham, the Queen’s residence in Norfolk.

For many years the band has toured overseas and has visited the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, the USA, Canada and South Africa where NCB was the first Salvation Army band ever to visit the African continent from overseas and the first ever brass band to travel to that country.

But………..on 5 & 6 April the focus of Norwich Citadel band is fully on Psalter Lane, Sheffield.

Don’t miss this great weekend at Sheffield Citadel – we look forward to seeing you !
