Sheffield Citadel Band celebrated its 135th Anniversary in 2016, the year of its foundation being 1881. The Band’s beginnings were very humble. The first instrument was a large bell and its second an old drum! However it quickly became an accomplished musical group and its reputation spread throughout the ‘Army’ world.
Sheffield Citadel Band was the first Salvation Army band to make a radio broadcast , in 1923. A succession of excellent bandmasters led the band to perform all over Britain. In more recent times the band has also visited Finland, Holland and Norway.
Today, under the leadership of Bandmaster Keith Wileman, the Band is also the focus of the Corps’ outreach ministry, regularly taking the Gospel of Jesus into the surrounding community. The band’s members are employed in many different types of occupation – but their common aim is to tell other people of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
