Black Dyke Concert

Last night a capacity audience was delighted to a fantastic night of music as Black Dyke Band returned to The Citadel.  Visitors commented on the relaxed atmosphere of the concert and how much they had enjoyed the quality playing by the Band and their soloists.  It was good to hear a number of “Army” pieces incorporated into the programme, including the march Sheffield Citadel by Herbert Mountain, a fitting inclusion.  Sheffield Citadel Bandmaster, Keith Wileman, was invited to conduct Black Dyke in what is SCB’s signature march and the audience, and Band, responded enthusiastically.  A more reflective moment during the evening came when the Band played the hymn tune “Deep Harmony” in memory of Roy Shenton, a friend of both Black Dyke Band and Sheffield Citadel Band.

Other pieces during the evening included:

Festive Overture, Shostakovich
Don’t doubt him now, Len Ballantine – cornet soloist Richard Marshall
Breezin down Broadway
I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair, Roger Harvey – trombone soloist Chris Binns
Metropolis 1927, Peter Graham
The Holy Well, Peter Graham – baritone soloist Katrina Marzella
