100 share in SCB’s Open Band Practice

A massed band of over 60 former and current bandsmen & friends, and an audience of some 40 people gathered together to share in this year’s annual SCB open practice.  As always the event was well attended & it was great to see so many people gather at The Citadel to share in what has traditionally become a great evening of music and fellowship.

The evening got off to a lively start with an old march requested by Dudley Hughes, “On to the War”, followed by a more modern piece in comparison, “On the Road” which was the choice of Alistair Mann.

During the evening the massed band played a diverse range of music all of which had been requested, under the leadership of current Bandmaster Keith Wileman and Deputy Bandmaster Roland Spencer, and former Bandmasters Ian Wileman and Roland Hill.  The varying range of music played meant that there was something to bring back memories for everyone.  The complete list of music played was:

On to the War
On the Road
By Love Compelled
Moments with Tschaikovsky
The Red Shield
Constant Trust
Ere the Sun goes down
Tune from Guardian of my Soul

After the rehearsal, a time of fellowship followed, where everyone was able to gather together to share in food & fellowship, to catch up with “old” friends, to reminisce and to talk about upcoming events which will be taking place.  It was great to see so many people attending and supporting the evening and to have the opportunity to share with so many former bandsmen and friends.

For those who missed out this year, don’t worry, there will be plenty of opportunities to join with SCB in the months to come as we will be celebrating our 135th Anniversary in 2016.  As well as a number of special events which will be taking place during the year, there will of course be another Open Practice next July. We hope to see you there!
